We are fashion forward, without compromising on ethics.
From the moment Ilk + Ernie was founded, our garment workers care was number one priority. All of our collections are ethically made by a talented team of men and women in Delhi, India. They receive all of the amazing treatment that a lot of us take for granted: fair wages, holiday pay, health insurance, safe working environments and EU standard working hours.
Sam, our factory owner, has worked tirelessly to achieve these ethical standards through out his factory, so much so that he is now officially SEDEX certified, meaning his factory is recognised worldwide as doing things ethically - which is pretty cool!
Wages in India are varied between the state they live in and the level of skill the employee has. The amount the employee is paid is dependent on the employees skill set - 'unskilled', ‘semi-skilled' and 'skilled'. A lot of this is down to many Indians not being educated and often coming into work with little to no training for the jobs they are hired for. Our factory trains all its employees and pays them by government rule. As their responsibilities and experience increase, so does their wage. Our factory also encourages education for our employees' children and supplies long term, zero interest loans to help with school fees, as well as bikes, home renovations, marriages and more. We also run an employee of the month program and are currently working hard to get all our team safe and vaccinated.
